8th Grade Field Trip!

  1. This is the pathway to the beach. We did play like two seconds of volleyball but it was too windy and TOO cold. Someone did manage to hit the ball into the ocean.

  2. Wright Brother's memorial...on top of a really long hill and when you're struggling with a stomach virus it was not very pleasant. The sky was a beautiful Carolina blue though. The scaffolding makes for an interesting picture as well.

  3. North Carolina's most famous lighthouse. This is the one that got moved up the road to protect it from the eroding beaches. Pretty cool even if we didn't get to go up inside of it!

  4. The amusement park on the beach the first night of our trip. I did take on some of the kids on the go-cart track, but those things weren't made for someone as tall as me. I drove with my knees up to my chin. I started in the back of the pack and worked my way up to the first five finishers. We had fun!

  5. Fort Macon. I can't tell you too much about this fort because I was wandering with my camera as the kids listened to a talk from a historical ranger dude. They paid attention for quite awhile. It was pretty cool and made me miss Melanie because she would've loved it! I hope the pictures I'm sending her does it some justice.

My girls - well a few of them! Erika and Christy - nice sweatshirts! Sabrina - my seatmate for most of the way home - definitely made my trip better! Carson - that girl is crazy but I love her to death!

A Few Pics

Pi Day Celebration!
We measured circumference and diameters of sandwich cookies using pull-n-peel twizzlers. This is a small portion of the pies that we ate on Pi Day. We ended up with 41 pies being donated by the loving parents of my students. My countertop was full and the refridgerator and freezer in the teacher's workroom was also full.

Time with Zeke and Jasmine over spring break.

This is the fort we built in Zeke's bedroom - using mostly blankets and pillows from his room. It is where we played army most of the weekend.

Geeps

Have you seen these things? It's a cross-breed of a goat and a sheep - found in Australia. Pastor George mentioned them in his sermon today. The Christians of the world are sheep and know the shepherd and His voice. The lost souls in the world are goats. His question to the congregation at one point was "How many geeps are filling the pews of our churches?" They know the language of the sheep and can even sound like a sheep, but they are holding on tightly to the goat life-style. That was quite humbling to think about.

There are a few verses to be considered here:Matthew 25:31-33 "When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his throne in heavenly glory. All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left." The rest of this chapter tells of what happens to the sheep and goats. It's a good study if you get the chance.

So where do you stand? On the right with the sheep, on the left with the goats or somewhere in the middle. As Pastor George says, "It's going to be a tough, painful day for the geeps because they will have to be put on one side or the other."

Crunch Time

So it is now officially crunch time at LMS. Third nine weeks is already behind us. The 8th grade Outer Banks trip has come and gone. We are cramming in the final chapter of our math book this week. Report cards go home tomorrow. Review cramming starts in about ten days. I have a plan for my review but after seeing the most recent test scores I might have to revise those plans. Why a principal would decide to implement some new program NOW is way beyond me but some visitor is coming in to evaluate all of us core teachers tomorrow. I plan on changing nothing really. I've got my lessons to teach and my kids to get ready for their EOG. It's sad to think that my kids will be high schoolers in a little more than six weeks - well most of them should be at least! I am going to be hired back here next year and am TOTALLY excited about this! Coach Richardson and I are getting our heads together about volleyball stuff for the summer sometime this week too. No job hunting this summer!

I hope to post some pictures from spring break and the outer banks this week. We'll hope the computer cooperates for me (the one at school is still DEAD!). To all you other teachers out there, I'm with you in the countdown to summer. Hang tough and work hard so we can enjoy our freedom come June!

On a final note, Majesty Motors is set to open in about 60 days. Mom and Dad will be moving back to Hickory in about 3 weeks. I may become a car salesman for the summer or at least a runner/driver for the business, but if it means the parents being back in Hickory then I'll be happy to serve! Let me know if you're going to be looking for a used car any time soon. I know a good place that's just opening that could use some business!
